Images of a rear casing said to be for the smaller 4.7-inch
iPhone 7 were shared on Chinese social media sites in July, matching many of
the features rumored for the 4.7-inch device. The images feature a larger
protruding rear camera and top and bottom antenna bands, but no rear antenna
bands and no Smart Connector.
iPhone 7
An iPhone 7 dummy unit, identical to the rear shell, was
shown off in a video, giving us a glimpse at what the bottom of the iPhone 7
might look like. There is no headphone jack, as has been rumored, and the space
left by the headphone jack is occupied by a second speaker.
One of the same iPhone 7 dummy units circulating in China
was compared to an iPhone 6s in a video, showing off the differences we can
expect to see between the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 6s. The device in the video
is not an actual iPhone 7, but we believe it to be an accurate replica based on
previous part leaks.
Photos of the iPhone 7 Plus shell have not been spotted yet,
but we have seen several dummy units likely representative of the iPhone 7 Plus
design that have been created for case makers and other accessory companies.
The first dummy unit image was leaked on a Chinese website in March, followed
by an additional images in July. All of the iPhone 7 Plus dummies feature a
design similar in shape to the iPhone 6s Plus, but without rear antenna bands.
They also include a protruding, pill-shaped camera enclosure that includes two
cameras inside, as is rumored for the larger-screened device, along with a
round flash.
Dummy unit images depict a Smart Connector on the back of
the iPhone, but rumors disagree on whether this is a feature that will actually
be included. It's been seen in part leaks and in iPhone 7 Plus blueprints, but
according to to Japanese site Mac Otakara, Apple has decided not to include a
Smart Connector on any iPhone 7 model.
iPhone-7-vs-iPhone-7Plus-Pro-Dummies
The front display of an alleged iPhone 7 Plus dummy was seen
in July with a design that's nearly identical to the design of the iPhone 6s.
Not much can be gleaned from the display image, but it does appear to have a
normal home button, potentially ruling out previous rumors of a flush home
button if it is representative of the actual design of the iPhone 7 Plus. Also
notable in the image is a missing mute switch, an inexplicable change because
leaked iPhone 7 parts do depict a mute switch. For that reason, iPhone 7 Plus images
may not reflect the actual finished design of the device.
